Alex was a Rebel from 1997 to 2003, and graduated from Marblehead High School in 2004.
His favorite Rebel moments are when he played Bottom in 1998's production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream," and appearing with Charlie Semine in "Measure for Measure." Alex also returned as a director and instructor to Rebel, working with the teen intensive program in 2007 on their productions of "King Lear" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
Alex is currently finishing his BFA in Acting at Syracuse University. He started his program at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in England, and had the most wonderful blessing to be at the Globe Theatre in London in 2007 learning things about Shakespeare at the roots, exploring ways to approach the plays that he has never encountered before, even with Rebel. Alex graduates in May 2008, and will move to New York City to pursue a career there if all goes according to plan...
Recalling his time with Rebel, Alex writes "If I had to pick one 'lesson' I've learned that's helped me consistently it is the day I learned that Shakespeare's words are to be tasted, relished, explored, eaten, and that when you let them, they are open windows for your deepest self into the outside world.
"I need to say that imagining what my growing up and 'coming of age' would have been like without it [Rebel] is mind-boggling and rather terrifying. Rebel is THE thing that got me through that period of my life and slingshotted me into the next one.
"Kids will be kids, and through all of the drama that comes with a group of young people doing drama, there is always that particularly strong core of support and love that makes this company so unusual and so completely vital.
"It is unbelievable how through high school and even into a Shakespeare-based conservatory Rebels still know the most about Shakespeare! The Rebel is especially supportive when Rebels decide to continue their training as an Actor. I can't fathom getting through this long arduous process without Keri [Cahill]. Going into the post high school acting world and being completely at home with Shakespeare is something that only happens with Rebels. I have never encountered or heard of anything remotely similar."
