Meghan Boehmer

Meghan is a 2007 graduate of Marblehead High School, was a Rebel from 2001-2003. Currently, she is a student at the Savannah College of Art and Design. studying Production Design.

Of the roles she played, she says that her favorite has to be The Nurse from Romeo and Juliet. "She has the broadest range of emotions. She's such an amiable character, so when things start to go wrong it breaks your heart to see her. Especially when Juliet drinks the potion, because she was like a daughter to The Nurse."

Her experience with Rebel, among other influences, led her to her current field of study. "I knew I wanted to stay in theater professionally. I've always been both an artist and an actress and costume design puts both facets to use."

Meghan is proud to be one of "a handful of people I know who can sew a corset."

During the summer of 2007, Meghan worked at Salem State College in the theater department constructing costumes for the summer theater program. Of this experience she says, "you know you've chosen the right major or the right job when you're stressed out of your mind after a fourteen hour day and you can still say 'I love my work.'"

Meghan started reading Shakespeare on her own after her first Rebel Shakespeare production (Hamlet). "I think the greatest thing that the program does for kids is helps them to understand and appreciate Shakespeare before they have to study him. I was dumbfounded when I read Hamlet again in college and saw the rest of my class struggling with the language when it came so easy to me. I even got annoyed with the footnotes for stating the obvious. I have Rebel Shakespeare to thank for that."

One of her favorite memories of Rebel is when she "I took part in a stage combat class that was an offshoot of Rebel Shakespeare and absolutely loved it." She got to be Cassio in the drunken fight from Othello, so had the task of pretending to be "drunk" and still win the fight.

"I had always wanted to be in one of the fight scenes and was never casted in them, so it was basically me living a dream and I'm proud to say I have a clue when it comes to swords now a days."

Meghan will graduate in 2011, and her ultimate goal is to work at WETA Studios in New Zealand, the company that did the costumes, props and sets for "The Lord Of The Rings" and the "Narnia" series.
