This year’s teen intensive will take on a new form! Combining the best of what you loved about your earlier years in Rebel Shakespeare with the more challenging aspects of a typical conservatory experience, this program will invite young actors to renew and re-energize their commitment to theatre by immersing themselves in every aspect of an actor’s work: text exploration, voice work, movement, stage fight, scene work, actor/audience relationship, and personally defining the actor’s role in today’s changing world. Utilizing the talents of a diverse group of professional master teachers and directors over the course of three weeks, the program culminates in 6 performances of a 90 minute adaptation of The Winter’s Tale in site-specific locations across Boston and the North Shore.
During the first week, actors build their personal connection to the text while fostering more truthful body awareness and letting go of ‘bad habits’ and habitual tensions. This work grows to encompass the actor’s relationship with audience and how to create and sustain a truthful exchange on stage. The second week synthesizes this work into the more practical aspects of scene work, with continued focus on deeper awareness of self in voice and movement. The third week will have actors fine-tune the skills essential in mastering a Shakespeare performance. The fourth week catapults the actors into performance and its particular demands.
